Our approach to commercial projects is to create enriching places for everyday lives. We have worked with residential housing, retail developments, healthcare environments, learning environments, children’s play and access to nature. These projects involve practical and technical solutions and adherence to published guidelines or statutory rules. Proposals will be scrutinised by planners, statutory consultees and local communities. Unlike private spaces, we rarely meet the people who will use these places.
So, we need to understand these communities through careful research, community meetings, working with local groups and stakeholders to ensure that proposals meet their needs. Each situation will be different and requires a tailored approach.
Perhaps more than any other areas of our work, these are large team projects. Our role as team members will start with developing concepts and strategies which are reviewed and tested against the work of others and, in return, we interrogate theirs. The results are a collaboration but always with the end users, the community, at the heart of the project.
